2017 Startup Impact: Columbus Is a Startup City to Watch
2017 Impact Report highlights exciting growth
Today, we released Rev1’s impact report, Startup Impact 2017. We have an exciting story to tell about innovation and entrepreneurship in Central Ohio—and the best part is that it’s a story that continues.
2017 marked the culmination of a five-year plan for innovation and high-growth entrepreneurship that so many organizations and individuals here worked together to achieve.
Every great plan starts with a vision. We dubbed ours the Backyard Effect, an ambitious goal of connecting and collaborating in a whole new way. As a collective force, this region has accomplished much.
Rev1’s report outlines the key impacts contributed to the startup ecosystem over the past five years, including:
- $70MM in capital added, bringing Rev1’s capital under management to $90MM;
- 83 unique startups funded, including 28 spinouts from research institutions like The Ohio State University;
- Nearly half of Rev1’s investments were follow-on funding to growing companies; and
- $732MM in capital attracted to the companies Rev1 supports.
The region’s reputation as a place where entrepreneurs can build great companies extends beyond Ohio. Columbus was named the #1 City for Scaling Up Startups by the Kauffman Foundation for the second consecutive year. Our city ranked among the top 10 U.S. cities for entrepreneurs and startups by Business.org.
And we are just getting started. Our passion is high. Our future is bright.
