Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year. It’s a time of appreciation and reflection, especially now.
Here in Central Ohio, we have a special reason to feel grateful. The City of Columbus, The Ohio State University, Downtown Columbus, Inc., and Rev1 Ventures announced last week the ambitious shared commitment to create “Software Alley,” a new space for software scaleups right downtown followed by the creation of additional modern wet labs in the Carmenton district.
You can read the details here, but I want to call out especially the aspect of these plans that I so appreciate: We are just so fortunate to live and work in a community and region where people and institutions from the public sector, private industry, and academia work together with such commitment to build new high-growth companies.
Our collaboration is transformational. It’s the cornerstone that has helped more than 1,400 startups from here generate literally billions of impact for the Columbus Region and for Ohio.
On a personal note, a few months ago I lost my dad. He was my first and best role model. He loved science—I got my interest in innovation and engineering from him. My dad would have enjoyed the announcement of Software Alley and the new labs and would have recognized right off just how remarkable this investment in local startups is. My dad would say that when good people work together, good things happen. He would be right.
Happy Thanksgiving, wishing all the goodness and gratitude of the season to each and every one of you. Enjoy your time with family and friends.
