See How Fast Columbus Rose in Annual Index of Startup Activity
See How Fast Columbus Rose in Annual Index of Startup Activity, originally published in Columbus Business First.
Columbus had the largest single leap in entrepreneurial activity of any major metropolitan area, rising to 12th place from No. 22 a year ago, in the 2015 index of business creation released Thursday by the Kauffman Foundation.
Report author Dane Stangler had given Columbus a “middling” rating on the health of the overall environment for cultivating startups last month during Columbus Startup Week, but he did note then that Central Ohio has a lot of startup activity – what this new index measures.
Nationally, startup activity is recovering from the economic crash, the report says. The index was computed by using economic and population statistics to find the percentage of adults becoming entrepreneurs, the rate at which they did so when not already unemployed, and the density of new businesses relative to population.
